Transitioning into the Cambridge Portfolio Project!

Transitioning Into Cambridge Portfolio Project!

Hey Cambridge community! It's your dedicated filmmaker here, ready to take you on an exciting journey through the creation of my Cambridge Final Project. This blog is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

My Growth Through This Year

Once upon a time, I was just your average student, diving deep into math, science, social studies, and reading. I never thought there could be more beyond the academic bubble. But then, a twist of fate (or perhaps sheer luck!) led me to drop a class and enroll in this AMAZING media studies class, and wow, it's been one great journey!

I've found a new appreciation for films and storytelling, and I can't wait to pour my heart and soul into this project. One of the most exciting experiences so far was working on the music marketing project. Pretending to be a manager for a campaign was such a blast, and it gave me a taste of the excitement and challenges of the film industry.

Plans for Project

For my final project, I'm leaning towards creating a drama or coming-of-age film. I feel like these genres relate to me right now, and I can bring my own experiences into the story. Working with a classmate, we're planning to approach this project in a classic manner but with a unique twist that sets it apart from the usual films.

Our current game plan involves RESEARCHING A LOT about what made other movies successful and figuring out how to incorporate those elements into our project. Our goal is to set an eye-catching tone and build a relatable character that viewers can connect with.

Let's Talk About the Film Opening

In researching and watching other film openings, I’ve seen how crucial setting and tone are in creating something truly representative of a genre. One of my approaches is to connect my viewer to my main protagonist, and I plan on achieving this by setting a tone that is heavily focused on the character.

We’re inspired by the vibrant and nostalgic aesthetics of the 70s and 90s. The music, fashion, and cultural vibe of that era will set a unique and engaging backdrop for our story. We're exploring the idea of using a voiceover to add depth and provide awareness of the protagonist's thoughts and emotions. This approach can help build context quickly, which is essential given the two-minute time frame.

A key example of the vibrancy of the 70s that will help my film project stand out!

Character and Mise en Scene
I want my character to be distinct and not just your average teen. The environment and mise en scene will play a vital role in reflecting the character's personality and inner world. The setting, props, and even the smallest details will contribute to building a relatable and compelling narrative. I want the audience to see different perspectives and layers within the film, making it an unforgettable experience!!!

Notes from a lesson that explain why we might need to incorporate the voice over into our film opening.

Thoughts
I'm absolutely thrilled to embark on this journey, which is sure to be packed with moments of laughter, tears, and everything in between. Because, let's be honest, all great adventures are! Stay tuned for updates, sneak peeks, and maybe a few plot twists :)
