Drama!
I've been thinking a lot about what drama really is and how much it connects with me. At its heart, drama dives deep into human feelings, and that’s something I can really relate to. They talk about everything from heartbreak to big victories, and there’s always a bit of real-life struggle that makes the story interesting. I enjoy watching characters deal with their chaotic lives because it gives me a chance to look back at my own experiences. It's kind of like having a deep chat with a good friend about the ups and downs of life, except in dramas, those friends are super over-the-top and always looking stylish! That mix of real emotions and exaggerated situations really pulls me in every time!
Mamma Mia!(2008) got me thinking about my own project. I want to create colorful, lively backdrops similar to those eras to really capture that fun, carefree spirit. At the same time, my main character will feel a bit out of place in this energetic world, which adds an interesting contrast. The musical elements in the film also made me realize how powerful music can be in showing emotions and connecting with the audience. It's such a unique way to tell a story!
La La Land (2016), a beautifully crafted drama, portrays the dreams and struggles of characters. I think creating a striking contrast with the protagonist's internal struggles could make for a really interesting story. The goal would be to show how the main character navigates her dreams and the tough realities of life in a world that feels both vibrant and a bit alien. I can’t wait to explore these themes further!
These movies really inspire my project because they show how to mix deep emotions with great storytelling. By using strong acting and believable settings, our film hopes to connect with the audience on a deeper level. We want people to feel what the characters are going through and to really engage with the story. It’s all about creating a connection that makes the audience think and feel long after they’ve watched the film.
Coming-of-Age!
Coming-of-age films are all about characters and their personal journeys. They focus on how the main character grows and discovers who they really are. This makes the themes super relatable. We often see them tackle big ideas like identity, growth, and finding where you belong in the world.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018) really nails what it’s like to be a teenager and the rollercoaster ride of figuring out who you are. The use of voiceovers is particularly effective because it lets us dive into the main character's thoughts and feelings, making it easy to connect with her. This gives me a great idea for my own project—I want to use voiceovers too, so readers can get a peek into my protagonist’s inner world and feel closer to her.
Sixteen Candles (1984) has a special place in my heart. It captures the ups and downs of growing up with a perfect mix of humor and emotion. One classic film that stands out is a great example of how these stories connect with teens. The bright and unique styles of fashion, music, and culture from the 70s and 90s will provide a background that emphasizes how the main character feels like an outsider.
When working on my project, I’ve found that certain films, such as the ones above, really inspire me. They do an amazing job of showing how relatable characters and their journeys of self-discovery can resonate with audiences. I love how movies from the 70s and 90s capture the spirit of those times, and I'm excited to bring that vibe into my own work!
